NAfME – The National Association for Music Education is the world’s largest arts education organization and the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. More than 130,000 members represent all levels of teaching from preschool to graduate school. KMEA is a federated state association of NAfME. To join KMEA as a member, teachers must join and hold membership in NAfME.

Affiliate Organizations
The president of each affiliate serves as a representative to the Kansas Music Educators Association and in that role is invited to attend and participate in KMEA state board meetings.

Kansas Bandmasters Association – The purpose of the Kansas Bandmasters is to provide the Kansas Band Director with information regarding the Kansas Bandmasters Association’s activities, goals and membership. Our organization is also intended as a clearinghouse of ideas and content regarding bands and band directing with the purpose of assisting all band directors in their pursuit of excellence.

Kansas Choral Directors Association – KCDA is a nonprofit music-education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music’s position in American society. Through its newsletter, choral clinics, and summer convention, KCDA offers its members a diverse and practical forum in which to develop their skills and professional knowledge.

Kansas American String Teachers Association – The Kansas American String Teachers Association is the organization of Kansas string teachers dedicated to enriching the lives of all Kansans through active devotion to excellence in the field of stringed instrumental teaching and learning—nurturing continued growth in the people and processes required for outstanding musical performance.

Kansas Orff Chapter – The American Orff-Schulwerk Association is dedicated to the creative teaching approach developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman. We believe that music and movement – to speak, sing and play; to listen and understand; to move and create – should be an active and joyful experience.

Kodály Music Educators of Kansas – KMEK is active in our state and in the midwestern region of OAKE. Chapter members have presented at KMEA, the OAKE national conference, the NAfME national conference, and at local professional development workshops. KMEK is also highly supportive of the local certification courses at Wichita State University.

Kansas Music Teachers Association – The Kansas Music Teachers Association is an organization of private music teachers in Kansas dedicated to helping each student experience the joy of music. KMTA is a partner association to KMEA. This allows KMTA members to register for and attend ISW at the regular KMEA member rate.
