Dates & Deadlines

Every year, KMEA posts all deadline dates on the main calendar. Check that page for updates during the summer/fall.

All-State Ensembles
Music students throughout the state have the opportunity to audition to perform at District Workshops and at the KMEA In-Service Workshop. The audition process begins at the District level and culminates with selection to the All-State Groups. Selected musicians and vocalists have the opportunity to audition to perform in choirs, concert bands, jazz bands and orchestras at both the district and state levels. For more information about the student audition process within your district, please contact your District President.

All-State HS Choirs (Mixed & Treble)
State Choir participants are chosen on the day of District auditions. Follow your District’s deadline information. Students first audition for their District Choir. Rehearsal CDs are available. These CDs will be used during the audition. (Contact your DISTRICT Choir Chair for information.) The top scoring quartets (specific quotas for each District) who participate in their District Choir will be selected for the All-State Choirs.

All-State Instrumental Ensembles
State Instrumental Live Audition deadlines are linked to a fee schedule. Whether auditioning for the All-State 1234A Band, 56A Band, Orchestra, or Jazz Band, all auditions are held on the same day in the same location. Questions about a particular group should be directed to the All-State Chairs. Students must first be selected for and participate in their District ensemble first.

All-State Middle Level Choir
Deadlines are posted on the KMEA website at the beginning of each school year. The Middle Level choir is open to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students who are enrolled in their school choral program. An audition recording is uploaded for each student auditioning. Details on the audition piece and submission details can be found online each fall.

All-State Elementary Choir
Deadlines are posted on the KMEA website at the beginning of each school year. The Elementary choir is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who are enrolled in their school choral program. An audition recording is uploaded for each student auditioning. Details on the audition piece and submission details can be found online each fall.

KCDA Treble Honor Choir
Deadlines are posted on the KCDA website. Although the KCDA Treble Honor Choir performs during the KMEA In-Service Workshop, it is administered by the Kansas Choral Directors Association. Information and deadlines can be found by clicking the links below.

KMEA In-Service Workshop
Each year towards the end of February, KMEA hosts an In-Service Workshop at Century II Convention Center in Wichita. At this important annual event, speakers, performers, and vendors gather together to represent the best of music education throughout the state. KMEA members may begin registering in November. KMEA offers a free lunch to 1st-year teachers on the Saturday of the ISW (registration required).
