- Students auditioning will be required to perform a three-octave minor scale posted on the KMEA website. (ascending/descending)

Music Requirements for the Winds Live Auditions:
- Students auditioning will be required to perform a two octave major scale slurred up and tongued down. The scale will be determined the day of the live auditions by the State Band Chairs. The scale will be selected from one of the following: A-flat, E-flat, B-flat, F, C, G, D, A and E. Quarter note MM=120. Each scale is non-transposed (i.e., if a trumpet player is asked to perform a C scale, they will be expected to perform a C scale on their instrument, not a concert C scale.) Memorization is not required. Scales that can be played two octaves in the practical range of each instrument will be selected for the auditions. i.e: Oboe concert Ab scale would not be selected because of the extreme range it would require.
- A full range chromatic scale slurred up and tongued down. Quarter note MM=120. Memorization is not required.
- Sections of the required etude/solos posted on the KMEA website.
- Sight reading
Etudes will be posted on the KMEA website by May 1st prior to the next year’s auditions.

- Each percussion instrument audition must have its own entry application and each fee submitted.
