Robert & Myrabel Hollowell Scholarship

Robert & Myrabel Hollowell Scholarship Application form

This memorial scholarship is named for Bob Hollowell, former Executive Director of KMEA, and his wife Myrabel, for their service to the organization and to the kids and teachers that they served so well.

In their honor, KMEA will present a $500 scholarship to a deserving college junior each year at the In-Service Workshop. The Board asks that Bob and Myrabel’s many friends remember them by contributing to the annual scholarship fund. Each contributor will receive a receipt that will verify the gift for tax purposes.

Bob served KMEA as Executive Director for 30 years. He worked tirelessly and with little or no salary to make sure that KMEA helped music education teachers in Kansas. KMEA went through some very difficult financial times during the early days of his tenure, and it was largely through his efforts that the organization survived. He saw to it that KMEA not only survived financially, but grew in membership and programs to benefit teachers. Myrabel was a gifted pianist, organist, and accompanist for soloists and choral ensemble, along with her many years as an elementary vocal music teacher in the Wichita Public Schools.

Those who knew and worked with the Hollowells know of the great love they had for the profession and for their colleagues. Bob is remembered for his outgoing personality and for his wonderful sense of humor. If you were a friend of Bob’s, you were most fortunate. His many friends were the joy of his life. His booming voice and his laughter were always a highlight of any KMEA activity. He was a most special person and a major factor in the development of KMEA.
