Important KMEA Dates
Listed below are deadlines and dates for State KMEA functions. Your District will have other deadlines for their events through the year. Be sure to check your District's website for District deadlines first.
State Festival Groups
Music students throughout the state have the opportunity to audition to perform at
District Workshops and at the KMEA In-Service Workshop. The audition process begins
at the District level and culminates with selection to the State Festival Groups.
Selected musicians and vocalists have the opportunity to audition to perform in
choirs, concert bands, jazz bands and orchestras at both the district and state
levels. For more information about the student audition process within your
district, please contact your District President.

State High School Choir
Students first audition for their District Choir. Rehearsal CDs are available. These CDs will be used
during the audition. (Contact your DISTRICT Choir Chair for information.) The top scoring quartets
(specific quotas for each District) who participate in their District Choir will be selected for
the State Festival Choir. |
State Instrumental Groups
Whether auditioning for the State 1-4A Band, 5-6A Band, or Jazz Band, all auditions are held on
the same day in the same location. Questions about a particular group should be directed to the
Festival Group Chairperson.
Students must first be selected for and participate in their District ensemble first. |

State Middle Level Choir
The Middle Level choir is open to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students who are enrolled in their school choral
program. An audition tape/ CD is submitted for each student auditioning. Details on the audition piece and

KCDA Treble Honor Choir
Although the KCDA Treble Honor Choir performs during the KMEA Inservice Workshop, it is administered by the
Kansas Choral Directors Association.

KMEA In-Service Workshop
Each year, KMEA hosts an In-Service Workshop at Century II in Wichita. At this important annual event,
speakers, performers, and vendors gather together to represent the best of music education throughout
the state. |
KSHSAA Events The following events are administered by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Refer to the KSHSAA website for those deadlines.
